- Top 5 Things to do in Big Bear
  October 11, 2019Snow / TravelIf you live in Southern California, visiting Big Bear should be on your spring, summer, fall and winter list of places to travel! From most cities it’s a short drive with Instagram worthy views on the way up! #doitforthegram right?! My point is if you haven’t been, it’s so cals best kept secret and if you have been, here are 5 things you may want to plan for your next trip up! 1. Hike This first one may be obvious, but planning a hike in Big Bear gives you that in-the-mountain-goodness you have to experience at least once during your trip. You could do the same hike once every season and it would feel like a completely different trail every single time. One I would recommend as a must do is the Castle Rock trail. It’s a little difficult to find parking in the busier months, but worth the hassle! Insiders tip: when you get to the rock climbers, continue around the rocks and you’ll find a rope to help you get to the top! 2. Drive Around Big Bear Lake Drive around the lake. If you’ve never done it, it’s a must see. When you head out of the main drag and on to the other side of the lake it’s a completely different experience! There’s campgrounds, homes are more spread out and almost the entire time on the east side you have a view of the lake, Bear Mountain and Snow Summit Ski Resort! If you’re headed up in the spring summer months, I suggest stopping at Captain John’s Fawn Harbor Marina. It’s a smaller marina, but there’s a very unique Frisbee golf course, Tarzan boat, and like most marinas, kayak rentals! If you’re driving around in the midst of winter, pull off and take a look at the frozen lake. Yes, Big Bear lake freezes over! 3. Walk through Big Bear’s Village Take a walk through the village. With so many shops an restaurants, you can’t go wrong. A few go-tos are The Teddy Bear Restuarant for breakfast, Oakside for lunch, and The Bone Yard Bar and Grill for dinner! as the sun begins to set you can also take a ride in a horse drawn carriage! If horses aren’t your thing, many of the restaurants hold live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Who could resist the mountain air, a good drink, and free entertainment! 4. Go SKiing in Big Bear Another obvious draw to Big Bear is the 2 ski resorts open during Winter! Bear mountain is much more of a snowboarders paradise, with a park the runs from top to bottom! It’s the smaller of the two mountains, but definitely offers up some fun runs! Bear Mountain is also getting a bit of a makeover and should be ready to for the 2019/202 season featuring a much larger patio and a fresh coat of paint. If you aren’t there to ski make sure to drop by Laybacks bar right at the base for one of the best Bloody Mary’s! For a more family friendly adventure, a little more room to spread out and shorter lines, be sure to check out Snow Summit Ski Resort! Snow Summit also offers some prime mountain biking trails if the snow is just not your cup of tea! 5. Take the Scenic Route Big Bear offers fun for all ages, and all interests! But one last thing to do in Big Bear is actually as you leave Big Bear. If you can, try to go down the mountain a different way then you came up! If you take the 330 up, go down the 18 and stop off at Rim Of the World High School. Take a peek out over the valley and enjoy the view.   September 4, 2019RecipesFall is fast approaching and what better way to get in to the fall mood than to add a little pumpkin! These dairy free pumpkin muffins are the perfect start to the changing seasons and at only 147 calories, waaay less guilt! Makes 6 Muffins Time: 30 Minutes What you’ll need: Medium mixing bowlMeasuring cups/spoonsWhisk or large spoon to stirMuffin tin Ingredients: 3/4 cup of whole wheat flour 1/2 cup of granulated sugar 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon melted coconut oil 1/4 cup filtered water or almond milk 1/2 cup 100% pure pumpkin Directions: 1.) Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly grease or line a muffin tin. 2.) Place the flour, sugar, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl and mix well. 3.) Add the melted coconut oil, water and pure pumpkin to the dry mix and stir until all ingredients are blended. 4.) Add the batter to the muffin tins. Once evenly distributed, lightly wet the backside of the spoon and smooth over the top of each muffin. Bake in oven for 20-23 minutes or until a tooth pick comes out clean.
